AlarmAnalyst FAQ's
- Q. What does AlarmAnalyst® do?
AlarmAnalyst provides detailed statistics on the faults and down times that occur in your plant.
It does this by displaying alarm and event data as on-line interactive graphical trends and reports.
These trends allow for easy identification and analysis of recurring equipment failures and process problems.
By utilizing this information, maintenance and production departments can be focused on correcting quantified plant problems.
- Q. Why should we use it ?
Alarms report the occurrence of abnormal operating conditions. Everything from nuisance conditions, operating extremes, control problems and equipment faults.
All of these conditions have a direct influence on quality, energy conversion, throughput and safety.
Studies show that your plant will loose up to 8% of total throughput in the next year due to abnormal conditions.
Monitoring and proactively reducing these conditions results in a more efficient operation and is in the best interest of your company.
- Q. What makes AlarmAnalyst different?
AlarmAnalyst was built from the ground up to be run in plant environments.
It is a complete interactive graphical user interface that does not require you to setup Excel or other add-ons for report and graphics generation.
It puts relevant real-time information on the desktops and screens of those who need it most and in a format that can be understood.
With AlarmAnalyst, personnel are immediately able to gain deep insights into factors affecting operations.
Simplicity and interactivity is what makes AlarmAnalyst the most effective application available for dealing with and monitoring abnormal plant conditions.
As one Chief Operator said " I would not run a plant without it".
- Q. Can I export my text data to Excel, Access or Crystal Reports?
Yes you can but we can't understand why you would want to! With AlarmAnalyst you can schedule and print your customized reports within the application. There is no need for any other applications for reporting purposes.
- Q. What are the requirements for AlarmAnalyst Web Edition?
You can use virtually any standard HTML browser running under Linux, Unix or Windows.
The Web Edition does not download any dll's, OCX's, CAB's or cookies to the client browser.
The Server machine requires Windows NT, W2000 or XP with IIS 4 or better.
- Q. What does the Pareto curve represent?
Pareto Principle "the 80:20 rule” "A minority of input produces the majority of results."
The 80:20 rule originated from Vilfredo Pareto, an Italian economist who studied the distribution of wealth in a variety of countries around 1900. He discovered a common phenomenon: about 80% of the wealth in most countries was controlled by a consistent minority -- about 20% of the people. Pareto called this a "predictable imbalance." His observation eventually became known as either the "80:20 rule" or "Pareto's Principle".
The 80:20 rule has been expanded far since it's first economic use. Whilst one might quibble about the 80% or 20% (it is sometimes 60:40 or 90:10) the insight is broadly applied to leadership and management. The "80:20 rule" has become one of the best known "leadership shorthand terms" reflecting the notion that most of the results (of a life, of a program, of a financial campaign) come from a minority of effort (or people, or input).
For the purposes of AlarmAnalyst Pareto is more simply a "Continuous Improvement Methodology".
